Challenge
A large chassis manufacturer was experiencing structural problems with a 37 foot frame after the heavy chassis components were mounted to the frame. They came to Nex Solutions to develop a cambered welded frame that would result in a perfectly flat surface after the chassis components were mounted.
Solution
Nex Solutions engineers, fabricators and certified welders worked together to develop a prototype cambered frame that would “flatten out” after the mounting of the chassis components. Laser checks on 13 fixed points ensured that +.030 and -.060 tolerances could be met all along the 37 foot frame. A fixed weld pattern was used and fabricating programs developed to ensure the frame could be duplicated in a manufacturing environment.
Result
Our solution is still in use today and the program has been expanded to cover other chassis built by our customer. The end-users now have a flat surface to build on thereby increasing the overall quality and durability of the final product.
